Edward Newton, M.Inst.C.E, FGS, The Leys, Timperley Cheshire and 17 Cooper St,
Manchester. Son of the late John Newton esq. Born Moor House, Preston, Sept
5th 1859; educated at Windermere College, Manchester Grammar School, and Owens'
College; Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers; Fellow of the Geographical
Society of London and various kindred bodies; engineer to many corporations
and local authorities in England and Ireland in respect of water supply, drainage,
tramways etc; Hon Secretary of the Manchester and District Institute of Surveyors,
Land Agents, and Valuers; took an interest in antiquarian, historical and geological
research; author of papers relating to these subjects; died 1937
