Dwarvish

Language of the Dwarves

The Dwarves speak their own language, Khuzdul, a complex and logical tongue, but one deeply difficult for human speakers to pronounce. It is unusual, though not unknown, for non-dwarves to be taught the language, and if they are there will be deeper meanings, secret phrases and special nuances that are not included. Dwarvish is written in runes, originally designed for carving onto stone or metal.

Other than being forbidden in the Dragonrealms and forgotten in most human lands, the dwarf language was unchanged by Varkar's rule. In the trade expansions following the Slaying, knowledge of Khuzdul has spread farther than ever before.
